42" Tires, Rooftop Tent, and Endless Storage - Tour This Epic F450 Super Duty

When you see a Ford F450 Super Duty rolling down the trail on 42" rubber with a super single conversion, you know somebody’s serious about their overlanding game. The crew at Tiny Home Toy Hauler has built something pretty special here - a rig that bridges the gap between heavy-duty hauling and serious adventure capability.

The super single conversion is where this build gets interesting. Instead of running dual rear wheels like most F450s, they’ve swapped to a single wheel setup that matches the track width front to rear. This isn’t just about looks - though the squared-up stance definitely works. The conversion gives them better traction in sand and loose terrain while maintaining the truck’s impressive payload capacity.

Those 42" Goodyear G275 MSA tires aren’t just for show either. With an 80 mph speed rating, they can handle highway miles better than most aggressive treads. The owner mentions getting 55,000 miles out of the first set, which is impressive for rubber this size. The Stazworks 20x10 three-piece forged aluminum wheels save 20 pounds per corner compared to their previous setup - weight reduction you can feel in the throttle response.

The suspension work is where things get technical. They’re running a Carli 4.5" lift with King 2.5" remote reservoir shocks specced specifically for the Carli setup. The Carli radius arms and heavy duty progressive Deaver leaf springs are designed to handle serious weight - about 1,000 pounds in the bed when fully loaded with gear and dirt bikes. Air lift bags help level things out, and the Daystar cradle lets the bags disconnect for better droop travel.

Under the hood, the SB Filters particle separator intake is doing serious work. After 30,000 miles of dusty conditions, the filter element is still clean because the system cyclones dirt out before it reaches the filter. They’ve also added a MAP sensor spacer to keep the manifold absolute pressure sensor away from soot buildup - a common issue that causes power loss on emissions-equipped diesels.

The lighting setup is pure overkill in the best possible way. Four Lightforce HTX2 lights mount in the front bumper, combining LED rings with HID centers. Eight Striker LEDs spread across the bumper and roof rack for trail work, while ROK 40 floods handle rear illumination. The Switch-Pros RCR-Force 12 system manages all these circuits from inside the cab.

Storage and organization get serious attention too. The prototype bed rack from Expedition One’s Mule division adjusts height to accommodate dirt bikes underneath while supporting a 23Zero Kabari hardshell rooftop tent up top. Four Alley boxes from Equipped One lock up on the roof rack for secure gear storage. The Icky Concepts Molle bulkhead panel in the bed keeps recovery gear organized and accessible.

The rear bumper setup handles the heavy lifting - literally. That 42" spare tire weighs 206 pounds, so Expedition One beefed up their tire swing with bigger spindles and extra gussets. The opposite swing carries four jerry cans for water and fuel. Chase lights and flood beams complete the rear lighting package.

Two Dometic fridges handle food and drinks - a CFX35 in the bed and a center console unit up front. The center console fridge is a smart addition that eliminates the need to unbuckle and turn around for drinks while driving. Safety and convenience rolled into one upgrade.

The F450 platform brings serious capability to the overlanding world. With its heavy-duty axles, robust transmission, and impressive payload capacity, it can handle loads that would overwhelm lighter trucks. The super single conversion adds off-road capability without sacrificing the truck’s working credentials.
