You know that feeling when you see a truck that just makes you stop and stare? Spider Pig is one of those rigs. This isn’t your average weekend warrior - this is a full-blown 8x8 mega truck that’s been dominating truck pulls and tug-of-war battles for years. Now it’s got a new owner with some serious plans to bring this beast back to life better than ever.

Spider Pig started life as something completely different. Back in the day, a guy named Clint up in North Carolina had a vision that most people would call crazy. He took a 1995 Chevy single cab pickup truck and decided it needed to become something much more ridiculous. The genius move? He discovered that a deuce-and-a-half military truck frame is exactly the same width as a ’90s Chevy cab-and-chassis. That little fact opened up a world of possibilities.
What Clint built was basically a Frankenstein’s monster of the truck world, and it’s absolutely beautiful in its own twisted way. The truck runs 2.5-ton military axles front and rear - all three rears plus the front axle came straight out of military surplus. Those aren’t just for show either. This thing has been loaded down with 24 John Deere tractor weights hanging off the front, each one weighing about 95 pounds. Do the math and you’re looking at nearly 2,500 pounds of dead weight just for ballast.
The drivetrain setup is where things get really interesting. Spider Pig runs six driveshafts - yes, six - which means a whole lot of U-joints that need constant attention. The power plant is currently a tired big block Chevy that probably rolled out of a ’70s El Camino back in the day. It’s got maybe 15 horsepower left in it, but that’s all part of the charm. What really matters is the transmission setup behind it.

The Turbo 400 transmission in this rig is a work of art. Built specifically for truck pulls, it’s got a high-stall converter and extra oil passages drilled throughout. The transmission cooler is actually a repurposed AC condenser with twin fans, and the whole setup has never overheated despite some serious abuse. The current owner has pushed this thing to its limits - 26,000 pounds of total weight hooked to another heavy truck, holding it to the floor until a driveshaft snapped, and the transmission just kept asking for more.
Behind that bulletproof transmission sits the real party trick: two transfer cases working together. First up is a divorced 205 transfer case with a 2:1 reduction, feeding into a 2.5-ton military transfer case with another 2:1 reduction in low range. The math works out to something like a 6:1 final reduction, which means this thing barely gets out of its own way in low range but has enough torque to pull a house off its foundation.
The current setup rolls on 44-inch cut boggers all around - big, beefy, heavy tires that aren’t filled with water like some people think. They’re just running air, though some of them are currently running on hopes and prayers since the rubber is showing its age. The whole rig sits on that extended military frame with a 5-ton truck bed that’s seen better days.

Here’s where things get exciting. The current owner isn’t content to just keep Spider Pig running as-is. This truck is getting a complete ground-up rebuild that’s going to take it to the next level. The tired big block is getting replaced with something that actually makes power. The worn-out single cab is going away, possibly in favor of something with more room and maybe even air conditioning. The military truck bed is getting swapped for something completely different that promises to turn heads.
One of the coolest upgrades planned is flipping the rear hubs to make the truck almost a foot wider than it currently sits. That’s going to give Spider Pig an even more aggressive stance and better stability for whatever abuse comes next. The transfer case setup might get some tweaks too, though the 2.5-ton axles are staying put for now since they’ve proven they can handle whatever gets thrown at them.
The rebuild is going to happen in stages, with the whole process documented so everyone can see how a legendary mega truck gets brought back from the dead. This isn’t just a restoration - it’s an evolution. Spider Pig earned its reputation the hard way, dominating truck pulls and proving that sometimes the craziest ideas work the best.
What makes Spider Pig special isn’t just the engineering or the power - it’s the spirit behind it. This is what happens when someone looks at a regular pickup truck and asks “what if we made this absolutely ridiculous?” The answer is an 8x8 mega truck that’s been pulling its weight in competition for years and isn’t done yet.
The truck world is full of builds that look good in photos but can’t actually perform when it counts. Spider Pig is the opposite - it might not be the prettiest thing on the trail, but it gets the job done every single time. That’s the kind of reputation that money can’t buy and social media can’t fake.
With new ownership and big plans ahead, Spider Pig is about to enter its next chapter. The foundation is solid, the drivetrain is proven, and the vision is clear. This legendary 8x8 is going to come back stronger than ever, ready to remind everyone why it earned its name in the first place.
