Building a truggy from a third-generation Toyota pickup takes serious commitment and fabrication skills. The crew at Kreyzfab just wrapped up an impressive build that transforms a ‘90 Yota pickup into a trail-ready beast, and watching the process unfold is pure eye candy for anyone who loves custom metalwork and suspension wizardry.

The build centers around the boat sides - those raised body panels that give the truck its distinctive truggy appearance while providing crucial ground clearance. Kreyzfab chopped off the original sliders and raised the entire body 8", which meant cutting and reworking the bottom of the doors to maintain proper fitment. This kind of precision work separates the pros from the weekend warriors, and you can see the attention to detail in how they handled the body modifications.
The real magic happens with the suspension setup. The rear 4 link suspension uses 16" Radflow coilovers paired with 2" bump stops and 20" limit straps. Instead of going with a traditional truss setup, they opted for taller 4 link upper brackets that they boxed in completely. This approach makes sense given the fabricated housing they’re working with, and it maintains the clean lines that make this build stand out.
Frame modifications are extensive, with everything from the cab back built using 1 and 3/4" DOM tubing. The roll cage ties directly into the shock towers and integrates with the back half, creating a unified structure that can handle serious abuse. They even ran intrusion bars and a cowl bar that comes through the hood and fender before tying into the A-pillar - the kind of safety-focused engineering that shows they’re building this rig to actually wheel hard.

They relocated the fuel cell to the rear, moved the batteries for easy access, and even mounted a Carnage welder in the back. The custom exhaust work and completely redone brake lines show they’re not cutting corners on the systems that keep you moving and stopping safely on the trail.
One of the trickier aspects involved mounting 1st Gen bed sides to the 3rd Gen frame. Getting the body lines to match properly required some creative problem-solving, but the end result maintains the classic Yota pickup aesthetic while delivering modern performance capabilities. The rear panel accepts tail lights and includes a fair lead for a rear winch setup, plus they’ve incorporated multiple tie-down points for recovery situations.
What makes this project particularly appealing is how it maintains the Yota pickup’s character while dramatically improving its capabilities. The boat sides give it that aggressive truggy stance, but the proportions still look right. The suspension travel should handle serious rock crawling, while the reinforced frame can take the punishment that comes with running 40" stickies over challenging terrain.
The build process video condenses months of work into 10 minutes, but you can see the progression from stock truck to full-blown trail weapon. Each modification builds on the previous work, creating a cohesive package that’s greater than the sum of its parts.
The Toyota pickup platform provides an excellent foundation, but transforming it into a true truggy requires the kind of metalwork and suspension knowledge that Kreyzfab brings to the table. Check out their work on Instagram and Facebook to see more of their custom builds and fabrication projects.
This ‘90 Yota pickup went from daily driver to trail destroyer through careful planning and expert execution. The result is a rig that looks as good as it performs.
